Poster Presentations
Preparation
- For posters presented onsite, please prepare 3 documents 1,2,3
- For posters presented online, please prepare 2 documents 2,3
- a printed poster: the size is A0, portrait format, 118.9 cm(H) x 84.1 cm(W)
- a PDF version of the poster on a single page: the size is A2, 60 cm(H) x 42 cm(W) size with font size 12 pt or A3, 42 cm(H) x 29,7 cm(W) with font size 9 pt. This allows for the same amount of information as an A0 poster with font size 24 pt, while reducing file size. As the poster will be displayed on computer screens there is no effect on readability despite smaller poster and font size. Posters have to be submitted in PDF format, please use web-optimized settings if the software you use to create the PDF gives you the choice
- a video pitch of your poster (max 2 min, max 3 slides)
Requirements:
- Record your video in the highest possible resolution with a maximum file size of 500 MB. Please convert it into mp4 file format
- Add a picture of yourself on the first slide
- Add a chat function to the video for audience comments and questions
Submission
Please send your documents using Dropbox or a similar service to 17DSBS@ust.hk. Please always include your name and your session number in e-mails and file names. The file names should start with the following pattern: 17DSBS_<Session_number><presenter's LASTNAME_Firstname>. For exemple: 17DSBS_Session2a_CHU Ka-hou

Suggestions for presentation slides
Text Area
- Use sans serif fonts and try not to use too many different types.
- Use a minimum font size of 18, a minimum spacing of 1.15 and normal tracking.
- Avoid using all capitals, bold, italics or underlining.
- Leave ample white space between lines of text and graphics.
- Try to give each slide its own title.
- Split lots of information across several slides to avoid overcrowding.
- Number your slides so people can follow the progression of your presentation (maybe keep an overview of progression somewhere on the slide, e.g., a bar at the top).
- Aim for high levels of contrast between text and background.
- Use a plain background, avoid too much detail behind content.
- Don’t use colour alone to show meaning – use text and symbols in addition.
- Avoid overcrowding of slides by leaving adequate white space.
- Use an equal width border around slide content.
- Less text in larger fonts, more text in smaller fonts.
- For any body of text that is too large to display on a slide: create a QR code that links to the text, so readers can view it online instead.
